Virtual online live pottery course for intermediate students

79,63 €

Live online courses for intermediate students are spread over 4 weeks and held via Zoom application.  We meet virtualy once a week, for 135 minutes (3 school hours) each time.
A  5 kg bag of clay is included for students based in Croatia only. International students will be advised where to source clay locally. For students based in Croatia glaze and 2 firings are free of charge and everythig made during the Zoom class gets fired in our studio. The delivery and collection of student’s work is agreed individually to suit both parties. Glazing is done in our studio and students are welcome to come in person and glaze their own pieces or they can let us do the glazing for them whilst they participate over Zoom.
Our international students might like to find a local pottery center offering firing for a small fee. Your fired pieces can be used as art or in everyday life. Students are encouraged to make their own projects. Guidance and advice will be offered but previous pottery experience is a must.
The price of a 4 week course is 600 kn (about 80 EURO).  Please note, part of the course is available also as in-person, depending on the availability and wishes of each student.
Students will be invited to participate (in person) in raku firing  workshops for advanced ceramicists at a reduced fee.
* Currently the virtual course is conducted on Zoom platform on Thursdays at 6.30 p.m. Croatian time (5.30p.m. GMT)  We work with real natural clay and cannot offer any guidance or advice on air dry or modelling clay.

Demo Title

Raku firing really is one of the most natural techniques that you can encounter in working with clay. In loose translation the word “raku” means contentment and enjoyment in happy accident..

Originally created for the Korean tea ceremony, and further developed in 16th century Japan.

In raku firing all of nature’s elements are used in the process – earth, fire, air and water and together they create an unpredictable and unique style .

The process of Raku firing differs from other firing methods because it requires the fast removal of the piece from the furnace at their maximum temperature. While red hot, the pieces can be reduced using smoke from flammable materials, or enhanced with alcohol, or decorated with horse/pet hair and feathers.

It is a rather dangerous, unpredictable and amazing process.
