Description

RAKU FIRED CERAMIC VASE NO 110

After polishing with a semi-precious stone, the black vase with application of a flower was dried for 10 days and then passed through its first firing in a ceramic kiln at about 1000ºC. It was cooled for 24 hours and before the final firing, a golden glaze was applied to the flower with a brush. The result of the raku firing is a unique work of art that brings special character to any room.

Item number: 110
Weight: 324 g

REMARKS

REMARKS

  • Raku fired pieces retain scent of smoke for several weeks due to specific firing processes.
  • Raku fired items are porous and no liquid should be poured or kept in the bottles who think they are vases as it may seep through and leave permanent stains on your furniture.
  • Flowers photographed in bottle-vases are for illustrative purposes only and are not included in the price, however, a free ceramic flower chosen by the artist will be included with every bottle-vase.
  • It may not be the actual ceramic flower from the photograph. While every effort has been made to show items accurately on our website, slight variations may occur. Please note there may be variations in colours dependant on the calibration and settings of individual computer screens. All measurements quoted are approximate.

Demo Title

Raku firing really is one of the most natural techniques that you can encounter in working with clay. In loose translation the word “raku” means contentment and enjoyment in happy accident..

Originally created for the Korean tea ceremony, and further developed in 16th century Japan.

In raku firing all of nature’s elements are used in the process – earth, fire, air and water and together they create an unpredictable and unique style .

The process of Raku firing differs from other firing methods because it requires the fast removal of the piece from the furnace at their maximum temperature. While red hot, the pieces can be reduced using smoke from flammable materials, or enhanced with alcohol, or decorated with horse/pet hair and feathers.

It is a rather dangerous, unpredictable and amazing process.
