CERAMIC STYLIZED ABSTRACT BIRD OF HAPPINESS CARAMEL

Caramel is a Bird of Happiness finished in an alternative firing technique called Saggar. Carefully arranged selection of easily flammable organic materials created the earthy colour palette and distinctive patterns on her previously smooth and polished surface making her even more tactile.

This Bird of Happiness was created to evoke childhood memories of freedom and happiness. Hand modelled in soft chamotte clay, hand polished with a semi precious stone and slowly dried on warm summer sunshine it was fired in a ceramic kiln at the temperatures of about one thousand degrees celsius and then finished in saggar firing. It went through several transformations and just like all other Birds of Happiness is entirely unique and one of a kind.  There is a life happiness in every Bird of Happiness, born out of synergy of human touch, clay, water, air and fire. Holding a Bird of Happiness in our hand we feel one with the nature.

Product number: 208, Caramel
Weight: 354 g Height: 10 cm

Demo Title

Raku firing really is one of the most natural techniques that you can encounter in working with clay. In loose translation the word “raku” means contentment and enjoyment in happy accident..

Originally created for the Korean tea ceremony, and further developed in 16th century Japan.

In raku firing all of nature’s elements are used in the process – earth, fire, air and water and together they create an unpredictable and unique style .

The process of Raku firing differs from other firing methods because it requires the fast removal of the piece from the furnace at their maximum temperature. While red hot, the pieces can be reduced using smoke from flammable materials, or enhanced with alcohol, or decorated with horse/pet hair and feathers.

It is a rather dangerous, unpredictable and amazing process.
